Drawing with pencil, charcoal and pen and ink, each one the humblest of tools is my long time love. I am inspired by the early 20th century black and white photographers, including Imogene Cunningham and Ruth Bernard. As a consequence my landscapes have never strayed from the visual drama and subtleties of black and white.
Over the years I have broadened my palette with mixed media collage and beaded jewelry. The images of fruit and bamboo and birds are themes in a continuing collage series. They are colorful, multi layered constructions that incorporate beautiful Japanese papers, frosted mylar and colored pencil drawing. This approach is challenging with its complexity of elements but also gratifying as it allows my skills to evolve and grow.
Each jewelry design is conceived from the perspective of crafting a small sculpture. A delicate and beautiful balance is achieved by combining unique shapes, textures and materials. Silver, brass, carved bone and horn, semi-precious stones and glass beads are the tools I use to transform each piece into a wearable work of art.
