I love the medium of clay. When I squeezed my first fist full of that lovely pliable stuff in college, I was hooked. Over the years, I have tinkered with all the many ways one can use clay and you will see very diverse approaches and outcomes in my work. Sculpture has always been my primary focus as it stimulates and challenges my brain. In most cases, but not all, the work shows my take on the human condition – sometimes in a wry and humorous way and sometimes more sober and poignant. Working without sketches or plans, what’s percolating in my brain makes its way into three dimensional form.
I started to make pottery because that was a skill I was taught in school and I was able to create something useful that people were willing to buy. Hand-built ware is most interesting to me because each piece is unique but I make wheel-thrown pottery too. What a thrill when someone tells me they use my bowls every day. Themes and styles are constantly changing so come and see what’s new.
Mosaics resulted from my desire to never waste anything or throw anything away. Broken pottery shards and old pieces of sculpture are recycled into mosaics. Most are playful or intriguing little vignettes you can hang on a wall. Please come and spend a bit of time with us and enjoy LIVE ART.
