ARTIST STATEMENT
My work has many different subjects but the common thread in every
piece is the concept of LAYERS and Texture. I believe that all life deserves a second look, and there is always more to life than first appearances, as indicated my the many colorful and textured layers in all my work .
Using the brilliant, fragrant, and adhesive material of natural beeswax combined with colorful pigments called encaustic painting, I attempt to describe the complex, beautiful and connected nature of our world.
Often I use symbols from nature or animals, to represent my ideas. Sometimes the paintings are abstracted. My goals are the same in every painting I make- to trust my creative spirit to express visually my experience of this marvelous and inexplicable world.
I have recently been able to spend a good amount of time on the island of Crete, which also inspired a recent body of work.
